Miss Brandi Russell is no stranger to the stage. She began as a passionate and determined performer, who with her unique and powerful singing voice and emotional range, escaped from an American “white trash” neighborhood into the professional musical theater world, (with various leading roles such a
s Maureen in RENT, Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Flo Manfred in the World Premiere of Meat Street the musical, and Frenchy in GREASE!) and is now a musical theatre performer and recording artist in Europe.
In 2008, Miss Brandi Russell won the SBS Dutch televised talent show Popstars. This catapulted her career in a new direction: she was a member of a new popgroup RED, of whom the first single reached number 1 in the Dutch hitlist. The group, who focused on a much younger public, had thousands of fans, but Miss Brandi Russell wanted to reach a bigger audience, writing her own music, and an image that was true to who she was. She decided to take matters into her own hands.
Miss Brandi Russell wanted to record a world class album that would take the music scene by storm. She wanted to work with only the best and went on an international search for the most talented and respected writers and producers to make her dream a reality. Almost immediately, she was signed to an independant record label called NL Factor, part of the company MBR Producties in The Netherlands. Shortly afterwards was she in contact with the Swedish producers Emil Hellman – one of the founders of the famous Cherion Studios in Stockholm, Sweden, and producer of artists such as Michael Jackson, Kylie Minogue, Ace of Base, George Michael and Agnes Carlsson, also known for his SoundFactory remixes and hundreds of worldwide number 1 hits on pop and dance charts; Peter Hägerås, producer of artists such as Taylor Dayne with the hit song “Facing a Miracle” for the Gay Olympics 2010, NEO, UDO, Paul Potts, and the gay-friendly group Straight-Up with their hit song “Show the World Tonight,” for Stockholm Pride 2011. Miss Brandi Russell has also worked respected writers such as Bruce R.F. Smith – who has written diverse number 1 hits for artists worldwide, such as the Japanese boy band Kat-Tun "Run for You" and V6 with " Crank It Up". Bruce has won the Golden Harp award for songwriting in Holland and is also the Dutch record holder for 7 songs in the national Songfestival. Miss Brandi has also had the privilege of working with Alan Glass, who has written for the best in the R&B and pop world, including Aretha Franklin, Jocelyn Brown, Earth Wind & Fire, Sheena Easton, Jennifer Holiday, Caught in the Act, Miss-Teeq, Liberty X, and No Angels, among others. The result was the album Electronic Porno Pop, (re-released in 2014 as the album REINVENTED), which was internationally released on iTunes.
In the past few years, Miss Brandi Russell has not only been in the studio, but has also been seen performing by various events such as the Tour de France, the Ride for the Roses, Lego World, the Miss Nederland Finale and various GLBT Events, such as Koninginnedag aan de Amstel and Fright Nights at Walibi World, where she had her own show, Miss Brandi Camazotz Live!. She was the openings act for A Night to Remember, an 80’s pop concert with artists such as Rick Astley, T’Pau, Nik Kershaw, Paul Young and Marc Almond. In August, Miss Brandi Russell was seen performing at Stockholm Pride 2011 for over 80,000 people, where her song Leather and Lace was chosen as one of the official songs for the event. In the summer of 2012, she joined musical equality ambitions with the television station OUT TV, and brought out the song "I'm Gay" for Amsterdam and Antwerp Pride. The song was voted as the number 3 summer hit in Belgium.
Until leaving The Netherlands in 2012, she was an ambassador for Kika (non profit organization raising money to fund research for children’s cancer) and a presenter / jury for the Scholierentoer from the Revalidation Funds, a Dutch national talent show bringing the talents of teenagers with and without physical handicaps together.
Currently Miss Brandi Russell is performing as a solo artist and in the musical duo Braximusic (www.braximusic.com) for various events, cruise ships and 5 star hotels around the world. She has re-released her first album, with new tracks and artwork- with a brand new title: Reinvented, which is also available worldwide on iTunes. In 2015, Miss Brandi Russell will be recording a new album, which will be a debut into the American music market.
